Andy is the heart and soul of Nelson Landscaping. His entrepreneurial spirit and passion for excellence are the driving forces that have led to the continued growth and success of Nelson Landscaping.
From humble beginnings in 1995 as a twelve-year-old pushing his lawn mower across the I-35 bridge to get to his lawn customers in order to save for his first car to now being one of the largest professional landscaping companies in the OKC metro area, Andy has continued to see success and growth over the past 25 years.
Andy spends his days leading the Nelson Landscaping team of over 40 employees and ensuring the highest level of customer service and satisfaction for all customers.
Andy is an Edmond native born and raised. He enjoys college football, fast cars, and soccer but he is most passionate about spending quality time with his family!
Mike joined the Nelson Landscaping management team in 2022 after serving 26 years in the United States Air Force where he specialized in aircraft maintenance with experience on F-15E Strike Eagles, F-16 Fighting Falcons, A-10 Warthogs, and B-52 Stratofortress aircraft in various locations around the world. He is a trusted leader with a strong record of success in building cohesive teams. His broad experience in production, training, operations, and quality control provided a foundation for his leadership experience that readily transferred to our team.
Mike spends much of his time evaluating our processes for efficiency, monitoring communication, and ensuring team members are empowered. This creates an environment where everyone’s contributions are valued, which ultimately translates to a dynamic, unified team that is fully equipped to bring our customer’s vision to reality.
When Mike is not at work, he enjoys hunting, mountain biking, snow skiing, and spending time outdoors. He loves traveling with his wife and four kids to foreign cultures and experiencing their unique foods and people.
Chad joined Nelson Landscaping in 2019 after serving as a pastor for 18 years. As the Brand Manager, Chad works to ensure not only an exceptional external company image but also an exceptional internal company culture.
Chad’s passion for excellence and attention to detail along with his ability to develop systems and improve processes are helping Nelson Landscaping take the necessary steps to solidify a foundation for continued growth and expansion.
When he’s not at work, Chad loves spending time with his wife and cheering on his boys at their many basketball and football games.
Andrew joined the Nelson Landscaping team as a Landscape Designer in 2020 after graduating from Oklahoma State University with a Bachelors of Landscape Design and Management degree along with an Associate of Horticultural Sciences degree. Prior to attending OSU, Andrew worked as an Assistant Designer & groundskeeper for city, hospital, and school facilities in the Kansas City Metro area.
As a Landscape Designer, Andrew is primarily involved with the analysis, planning, and development of 2D & 3D design plans for a wide range of outdoor spaces. Andrew loves developing design plans that utilize both landscape and hardscape elements to provide beauty and function, as well as to solve any related issues.
When Andrew is not at work, you may find him and his wife traveling to National Parks, hiking, fishing, or pretty much anything outdoor-related. He’s also a pretty proud parent of his two fur babies: Blue Heeler Dog (Drover) and Bangel Cat (Atlas).
Josh joined Nelson Landscaping in 2005 after working at a specialty running store. Thankfully, he hates running and decided to join a field he is passionate about!
Josh is always on the go meeting with new, existing, and potential clients. He loves meeting new people and finding the perfect landscape design or project for his client’s budget.
Josh’s outgoing, creative, and hardworking personality eases the stress of his clients and makes each project run smoothly.
Travis has spent the majority of his career in sales within the construction industry. Prior to joining Nelson Landscaping, he was the branch manager for one of the largest siding companies in Oklahoma. However, landscaping has been in Travis’ blood ever since the days of running his own lawn mowing company when he was a teenager. Travis joined Nelson Landscaping in 2015, but he and Andy have been childhood friends since the 1st grade.
Travis spends most of his days meeting with potential clients and discussing their needs for landscaping or outdoor living spaces. He enjoys guiding clients through the process of designing and budgeting for their project in order to bring their outdoor dream to life. He uses his knowledge and expertise to make the process easy and stress-free for anyone looking to update their outdoor space.
Travis is known for always being happy and curious. Oddly enough, the only time you will catch this landscaper without a smile is if he sees a spider.
Bart joined the team in July 2019. Since he had the opportunity to work with Andy through his own business, he was happy to join the team. Originally, Bart started off in the accounting department, after which he moved to mechanical then finally into his current position in the Sales Department.
Through his incredibly strong work ethic, Bart is continuously motivated by the new challenge each project brings. He takes a great deal of pride in the company’s integrity and expertise. As a people person, Bart looks forward to interacting with clients and making a long-term connection. Working in a creative environment, Bart can easily express his ideas and suggestions about a project with his team and clients.
At Nelson Landscaping, the family-oriented atmosphere is just one of the many aspects that Bart enjoys and looks forward to growing with the company.
Asa joined Nelson Landscaping in 2023 with 16 years of experience in pool construction, repair, maintenance, design, and sales. After graduation, he set aside his childhood dream of becoming a firefighter and joined the United States Air Force. While serving in the Air Force, Asa married the love of his life and started a family. He then moved to California to work for a large corporation before starting his own pool company and eventually moving back to his Oklahoma roots to be closer to family.
Asa is an outgoing people person who truly enjoys the creative process of collaborating with homeowners to create a one-of-a-kind backyard paradise!
When he’s not at work, he enjoys golf, woodworking, living day-to-day life with his wife, playing video games with his kids, and barbecuing with friends and family!
Justin grew up in California and joined the United States Army after High School.
After serving in the Army, Justin worked in the landscaping and maintenance industry for 15 years prior to joining Nelson Landscaping in 2012.
As a Project Manager, Justin ensures that each project runs smoothly from start to finish by overseeing all work done by the designated job foreman and landscape crew. Justin stays in contact with the property owner throughout each project and does a final walkthrough upon completion in order to ensure the highest level of excellence and customer satisfaction for which Nelson Landscaping is known.
Outside of work, you may find Justin watching or playing soccer, attending church, or hanging out with his friends and family.
Matt graduated from Texas A&M with degrees in Agronomy and Horticulture in 1992. He then served in many roles within the Green Industry including: crew member, foreman, business owner, landscape and irrigation design, ISA certified arborist, and golf course management. In the years prior to joining Nelson Landscaping in 2022, Matt played a pivotal role in developing and maintaining many of OKC’s most iconic landscapes
As a Project Manager at Nelson Landscaping, Matt enjoys directing his talented crews to deliver what the designer and salesman promised to the customer. He loves seeing a job well done and expectations exceeded!
When he’s not at work, he enjoys traveling the open road with his family and working in his organic vegetable garden.
As Nelson Landscaping has continued to grow over the years it’s been essential to add new strategic roles to our management team. John Hilyard joined us in January of 2021 as our Project Administrator and immediately became a vital part of our team. In 2022, he transitioned into his new role as a Project Manager.
As a Project Manager, John works with customers, crews, and suppliers to ensure that each project he oversees is completed on time, on budget, and beyond the customer’s expectations.
John’s previous experience in landscape sales, landscape installation, nursery work, small business management, and real estate have all been beneficial in his ability to thrive in such a complex and demanding role at Nelson Landscaping.
When he’s not at work you may find John enjoying some downtime reading, working out, and spending time with family.
Lucas brought many years of construction experience to Nelson Landscaping when he joined our staff in 2022 as a Project Manager overseeing all construction!
Lucas grew up in a small farming community in Arizona and began working in the hardwood industry in Phoenix at the age of 18. Upon moving to Oklahoma, he began working in the construction industry in various roles including framing, siding, roofing, windows, concrete, and electrical; all eventually leading him into his own business as a general contractor. His first building project was a multipurpose building for an adolescent program (Teen Challenge) featuring a multi-level indoor cafeteria, school classrooms, admin offices, and a full gymnasium.
While taking a break from construction, Lucas worked in management for Lowe’s as a Sales Manager, Admin Manager, and Operations Manager. He also ran his own lawn care business for over 10 years in the Grand Lake area of Northeast Oklahoma. He resumed his general contractor business in Edmond in 2021 focusing on new construction and large-scale remodels.
When he’s not at work, Lucas enjoys spending time with his wife and 5 kids. He is currently pursuing a lifelong dream of obtaining his pilot’s license! He enjoys drone cinematography (filming off-road racing), and hunting elk in Arizona. He’s known to be a kid at heart so he loves serving in the kid’s ministry at his church.
As our Office Manager, Alison ensures that our office runs smoothly by managing office procedures and administrative duties. Alison oversees billing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, insurance, and everything in-between. In the midst of a very fast-paced professional work environment, Alison’s fun personality keeps our office atmosphere light and our team connected.
Alison attended and played soccer at John Brown University. After graduating, she played semi-pro soccer in Ireland! Upon returning to the United States she worked as an Athletic Trainer at Oklahoma Baptist for four years before joining the Nelson Landscaping team in 2018.
Although Alison works for a professional landscaping company, she claims to not have a green thumb. She loves spending time with her husband and daughter, playing soccer, spending time near and in the water, and is known to be pretty competitive at yard games!
We’re proud to have Shirley as the first impression of Nelson Landscaping. As the Office Receptionist, Shirley is the beginning of the excellent customer service that we pursue. From answering phones to scheduling appointments to posting payments and much more, Shirley goes above and beyond in order to provide a great experience for each customer.
Growing up, Shirley wanted to be a flight attendant but she didn’t meet the height requirement to be able to reach the overhead compartment. Since then she’s done it all: furniture sales, church receptionist, Mary Kay beauty consultant, police dispatch, building computers for GE and Honeywell. Prior to joining Nelson Landscaping in 2016, Shirley worked at AT&T for 23 years in various roles including customer service and support for escalated customers.
When Shirley isn’t at work, you can find her enjoying life with her husband of 55 years, reading, and spending time with her grandkids and great-grandkids.
Abril joined the Nelson Landscaping staff in 2022 as an Office Assistant after serving as a Team Leader and Shift Manager at several other large companies. Abril was a great and timely addition to our team! Her great customer service skills are valuable in her role as she answers phone calls, contacts new leads, confirms appointments, and schedules consultation appointments for our management team. Abril loves the fast paced, challenging, yet friendly office environment at Nelson Landscaping and is enjoying learning more about business as she strives to be a successful business woman herself.
When she is not at work you may find her longboarding, running along the Oklahoma River, or capturing priceless moments with her camera. She also loves spending time with her family traveling to new places, eating at new restaurants, and attending church together.
